Creative Statement

I strive to instill social change in a society that disfavors unconventional routes to success. Using video and photography, I cultivate social documentaries that present the stories of the marginalized majority in the United States. I believe that recounting and preserving such combats against formality allows the next generation of youth access to a foundation not offered in traditional education. Having the proper tools to succeed will cause individuals to visualize success in a practical way. Everyone has a story, it's our responsibility to be educated in the culture, customs, and lifestyles of others. By deconstructing different experiences, we bridge the gap between one another and continue to advance as a society as well as a species. I am inspired by the experiences and knowledge that roams the world, applying my findings to my personal life goals. As I transitioned into becoming an adult, I often found myself ill prepared for an array of situations that would come my way. The precalculus, war history, and chemistry classes of yesteryear did not aid me in establishing and maintaining good credit or combating the social injustices I’d face daily. As a college student there’s just certain knowledge was not accessible to me prior to furthering my education. While many factors might have played a role into that I think it’s important that anyone in the same predicament as me, or not, have access to a resource that can help them find the answers that they seek, the answers that they need. Documentaries are a great tool to learn new perspective on topics and subjects that you already know as well as gain information.
